Clearly fed up with the incessant bigotry that is Donald Trump’s campaign, President Obama decided to attack back – presidentially of course.
“There’s nothing particularly patriotic or American about talking down America, especially when we stand as one of the few sources of economic strength in the world,” said Obama during a speech to the nation’s business leaders in Washington DC.
Trumps campaign slogan is ‘Make America Great Again’. Obama seemed almost offended by this refrain.
“America’s great right now,” said Obama. “You wouldn’t know any of this if you were listening to the folks who are seeking this office that I occupy.”
He went on to denounce those who run presidential campaigns based on doom-and-gloom warnings purposely designed to scare the electorate. He lamented the growing trend of candidates who “don’t seem to have many solutions” but love to blame others for problems.
“In the echo chamber that is presidential politics,” said Obama, “everything is dark and everything is terrible. They don’t seem to have many solutions but don’t have any trouble figuring out who to blame.”
The president went on to address two major issues currently fueling Republican angst: the Planned Parenthood scandal and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He warned the Republican lawmakers, as well as GOP candidates, that they would be foolish to shut down the government over either of these issues.
